Expansion of the oven capacities for bushings

Expansion of the oven capacities for bushings at Moser Glaser

The objective was to create two additional vertical vacuum casting ovens to increase the capacity of the bushing production. In these so-called autoclaves, bushings are dried and cast with epoxy resin under a vacuum. With this expansion, Moser Glaser has reached the maximum possible increase of ovens in Kaiseraugst, Switzerland.

Due to the steady growth and the increased sales volume over the last 18 years, we have
continuously expanded our production facilities. Today, in addition to the two horizontal ovens for busbar production, with the two new ovens, we now have seven vertical ovens for the production of bushings. With the available space, we have reached the maximum possible expansion in Kaiseraugst.

With this expansion, we are creating a 40% higher oven capacity, which, in addition to the capacity increase, gives us the necessary freedom to optimise the processes.

In addition to the increased order volume, various developments led to increased demand for vertical ovens. More and more requirements include different resins, an increase in the proportion of non-paper insulated bushings and a trend towards more oversized bushings.

The challenges in the implementation were mainly the long delivery times of electronic
components. Fortunately, changing to a more extensive PLC control system reduced delivery time from one year to 21 weeks.

Anyone familiar with our space conditions knows that bringing in 7-metre-long ovens poses quite a few challenges. The ovens were delivered in two stages, followed by installing the electrical heating and insulation. A large area had to be made available for this work.

We were now at July and August from the planned delivery in May. Unfortunately, this delay meant we had to bring in two new ovens during the summer holiday (with reduced staff and higher turnover). Fortunately, these two agreed delivery dates worked out perfectly, and after about 4 hours each, the ovens "8 + 9" were at their final destination.

For the electrical wiring, we were actively supported by a team of Pfiffner in Hirschthal, Switzerland.

The commissioning of the ovens has been completed in December 2022.

These ovens are part of an overall project to increase the production capacity for  bushings. In addition to the new ovens, we have evaluated a new winding machine and ordered it to provide the necessary material.

Last but not least, we would like to thank all our employees who have contributed to the
successful implementation of the project by putting in an enormous amount of extra work.
