Pfiffner Switchgear looks back on nearly a century of history: founded in 1928 as Alpha Elektrotechnik AG, it has been operating under the Pfiffner brand since 2025 with three business units, each located at a different site.
With over 90 years of experience, the disconnectors business in Grenchen traces its roots to ALPHA Elektrotechnik AG. As part of Pfiffner Switchgear, this legacy continues, integrating the circuit breaker unit in Hirschthal to strengthen the commitment to high-quality power transmission in the high-voltage sector. The acquisition at the end of 2025 of the "Electrical Switches & Connection-Systems" business division from R&S Group Holding AG in Sissach expanded expertise in switching devices and connection solutions for low- and medium-voltage applications.
The disconnector unit in Grenchen has earned a global reputation for exceptional efficiency and reliability, ensuring a safe and consistent power supply crucial to demanding applications. The new circuit breaker developed in Hirschthal features innovative, F-gas-free technology with a GWP of less than 1, setting new standards in the energy sector. This product is currently in the final development phase. The electrical switches and connectors solutions portfolio from the Sissach unit perfectly complements Pfiffner Schaltgeräte AG’s offerings in the low- and medium-voltage segments.
